Spa Overview:
Warm, home-like, very engaging and friendly atmosphere. Coventina is a beautiful old farmhouse remodeled as a spa, nestled on seven acres of sprawling, manicured lawns.
Reception:
Walking up to the house is lovely; my visit was in August, so all was still in bloom. Coming into the spa, the reception area is to the right and beauty salon is to the immediate left, which can experience a bit of traffic. The co-ed reception area, where they also sell products, is not enormous. The receptionist was very friendly, but hard to see as the front of the desk is very tall. We waited only 10 minutes before being called for our appointment—very timely and considerate.
Bathrooms/Changing Area:
Bathrooms are basic—I only saw one—and I didn’t see any showers, though the Primped and Pampered package does include a warm Vichy Shower treatment. No bathrobes provided for basic massage; no separate changing room. Disrobing takes place in each spa room.
Treatment Room:
Upstairs, rolling French doors separate the rooms. The room was peaceful and warm with candlelight, a comfortable bed, soft music, and aromatherapy.
Amenities:
Coventina offers water, coffee, organic teas, and biscotti served by the spa specialist. There is a large upstairs lounge for visiting and relaxing after treatments.
Deals:
No deals with the exception of a Back to School special: 30-Minute Massage, Body Scrub, Basic Pedicure for $99.00.
Service:
Michelle was a great specialist; she understood my need to be peaceful and meditative, so she was appropriately attentive.
My back was knotted up when Michelle first touched it. She was so intuitive, she knew exactly how much pressure to apply without “beating” me up. And the kink in my neck was gone by the time I left. I enjoyed Michelle’s great technique and I nearly started snoring by the time my hour was up!
I was impressed with the professionalism of my specialist and would say that her Swedish massage was very competitive to the treatments in the San Francisco Bay area that I have experienced. An added touch: Being a cancer survivor, after my session I was able to discuss cancer spa treatments and the training each specialist must go through to understand the sensitivity issues.
This is the second time I have gone to Coventina while visiting my sister in Erie, Pennsylvania. The first time the specialist was very rough and, with my sensitive skin, I was pretty bruised. Not this time, Michelle was amazing.
Even though this facility is in a country setting—it has the high quality and professional appeal of a metropolitan spa. They were completely booked for beauty treatments—and even quick pedicures—so business is hopping.
If I lived in the area, I would certainly be making Coventina my semi-monthly visit. My sister is a director of nursing in the area and is a regular visitor and faithful client.
Special Sauce:
An aromatherapy lotion, which was wonderful at the time. (Unfortunately, now I can’t seem to get the scent out of my dress after washing it a few times!)
Payment Time:
Not a problem—swift and painless.
