Studio Overview:
Kevin’s studio is full of light and air, with the sun streaming in from a lovely back garden area. The vibe is sleek and no-frills. You’re going to get work done and Kevin is not taking any laziness for an answer.
Reception:
The Bar Method reception is friendly enough—just say you’re going to see Kevin.
Bathrooms/Changing Area:
The changing area is huge, contains two showers, multiple bathrooms—and everyone gets their own locker.
Treatment Room Space:
Kevin’s space is full of light, airy, and natural. You immediately feel at ease and comfortable enough to begin your training. The Gratz equipment is hands-down the best classical Pilates training apparatus. Kevin has the Wunda Chair, the Cadillac, a matt, and the Reformer. The space also includes a hanging wall. He also has some of his personal training equipment in the studio.
Amenities:
None.
Deals:
Ask Kevin about 10-pack and 20-pack discounts.
Service:
Kevin’s Classical Pilates is like no other Pilates I’ve experienced. It’s a full-body workout, and you need to be prepared. This is athletic, gymnastic, and intense Pilates. He’ll stretch you out and bend you into the shape you should be in for any particular move—and he’ll use the full-force of his body to help you. With the Push-Through exercise for example, he’ll sit against you, back-to-back and ensure your back is straight, and make sure you’re rolling down vertebrae by vertebrae.
Kevin believes Pilates is just one part of a holistic fitness regimen, so if you take a Pilates session with him, you might get some strength training in addition to your Pilates matt/reformer workout. He also loves the Wunda chair. I have a love/hate relationship with that piece of equipment—I love what it does to my butt (a little lifting never hurt anyone), but I hate how challenging that machine is! Don’t let Kevin know it hurts though, that might energize him to give you more reps (But at the end of the day, you will thank him).
Kevin is a no-excuses kind of guy. If you’re going to Pilates because you want to sleep through a relaxing workout, call someone else. If you want incredible strength, flexibility, and whole-body training, come here. You’ll do all the Classical Pilates moves and much more, and you’ll learn to do them correctly.
After the Hundred with Kevin, you’ll have ab soreness for three days, but they’ll be flat.
Special Sauce:
Kevin. He’s the real deal, an athlete that engages with Pilates as part of a holistic fitness regimen. He’s smart, savvy, and fun. He’s one of those all-American boys, with a wicked sense of humor and some serious sarcasm. You can tell he lived in NYC for a while before moving to the Bay Area.
Payment Time:
Checks or cash to Kevin directly.
Go Again:
I see Kevin at least twice a week when my schedule permits, for an hour at a time.
Recommend to a Friend:
Yes, without hesitation (and they love him too!)
