Lovely Loyly

Loyly Sauna is one of my favorite places in Portland. Located in the Clinton neighborhood, Loyly offers a cedar sauna and lemongrass scented steam room in a beautiful, minimalist environment designed by Brendon Farrell. A few hours at Loyly Sauna rearranges my outlook like nothing else.

If I don’t get to Loyly at least once a month, I begin to unravel. Everything here is calming: the candles, the fresh flowers, and the soothing, unobtrusive music. Also calming is Jessica taking care of your every need. The entry fee includes sandals, a robe, towels, and locker so that you can just walk in off the street and dissolve away tension.

Swedish massage, aromatherapy facial steams and flowery foot soaks can be added to daytime visits, and single portion sizes of Dr. Hauschka organic lotions, toners, masks, and sea salt body scrubs are available anytime. Massage requires advance appointments.

If all this just isn’t divine enough, little nibbly bits like cheese, rosemary almonds, dark chocolate, miso broth, and dried cherries are available to enjoy with your cleansing tea or sparkling water.

An entry fee of $25 allows a visit of up to three hours. It is worth every dollar, and less time can be purchased at a lower rate. Snacks, beverages, and treatments are extra. Call ahead, as some times are designated women or men only.
