Added Nov 07, 2008I've has electrolysis on my ears (don't ask), and was thinking about getting laser hair removal done on my back and shoulders, but I heard it hurts more than electrolysis when the body area is large. Does anyone know if this is true?

but you can minimize the pain with numbing cream 30-45 minutes ahead of time and by working with a great dermatologist. I love Dr. Eidelman at West Village Dermatology. He is very tolerant of my being super squeamish.

Does the laser expert provide the numbing cream ahead of time? I suspect not. If I'm right, what specific product do you use? Is there something available OTC that numbs tissue? I'm aware of creams to be used after a burn (sun or heat-generated) but not any products defined as "numbling."

I'm having trouble uploading a profile pic- Mac/Firefox issue?
I had laser hair removal in the chin area & thought it was very effective- I would recommend it. It does produce a mild sting, kind of a zap, as you would expect- but my flinch reaction was always stronger than the sensation. I only had one or two very brief moments where I thought it actually hurt hurt. And I think that was due to the technician overlapping two "shots." Mild, bearable pain- worth it, in my opinion.
If this double posts, I'm sorry but I think this forum might have mac/firefox issues (not to cause alarm).

If you have it done - make sure and post your experience - enquiring minds...
I have wanted to ry this for some time! I agree with the commenter who said that pain once or twice - preferable to the pain of a lifetime of shaving! And what a pain it is!

My experience with both was that electrolysis was far more painful than laser hair removal (I used numbing cream for both). I CAN'T believe you got it done on your ears - that sounds like torture!

how much does it cost? no matter what pain i think it would be worth never dealing with it again

Electrolysis is permanent; laser hair removal is not. I'd rather endure a bit more pain for something that will last than a repeated sting that requires retouching. (Sort of like the argument for an eye lift versus Botox to battle crow's feet - one will stick and one will fade.)

One of my guy friend got it on his back. He likened the "pain" to being thwacked with rubber band. Not too bad because the thwack is over a large surface area.
Not too sure about on the ears. My guess is that it'll definitely go faster - on the bright side.
Also, laser hair removal IS PERMANENT. His back is absolutely hairless.
Oh!! And I see that there is numbing cream available on InnerRewardswww.innerrewards.com...
