Added Oct 15, 2009It's no secret Injectables are becoming more and more widely used by everyday men and women to help keep wrinkles at bay. The big three, Restylane, Juvaderm and Botox have been the most popular cosmetic procedures, and statistics from the Aesthetic Society show that almost 2.5 million Botox procedures were performed last year, a number that has increased 3681% since 1997.
In urban cities especially, it seems the stigma is fading and more folks (both women AND men) are openly discussing their injectable procedures or willingness to try. What about you?

I am striving to go natural, not saying that I would never ever, but that is my goal. To me it is all about sunscreen and great skin care.

No injectables for me - I'd rather practice facial massage and facial relaxation, which are both proven to alleviate the very issues that injectables target. I like things that are permanent, and I feel that I'd get addicted to the "look" of a freshly plumped mouth or full cheeks. I'd rather wait and save for a facelift, or even spring for a chemical peel.

I'm nearing 40 and have taken the Botox/ Restylane plunge. I'm very happy with the results. I think it takes a good 5 years off my face. The biggest issues for me are that they are expensive and not permanent, therefore getting into the habit can be costly. (Botox 3 times a year $600 a pop, Restylane, once every 18 months $700 a pop). I skimp on other things like designer shoes and bags to keep my face fresh, but it ain't cheap ladies (or gents).

Great discussion, I touched on this in one of my first articles. great statistics you gathered. iI might consider - almsost did some months ago. if i get a series of botox doen on my forehead, back and shoulders it is thought it may help with my headaches. However, i just found a doctor who is against me trying this or the betablcker and imatrex suggested by a doctor right before my pregnancy as he thinks it may have to do with a larger condition - along with sudden weight gain, memory problems, thickened tissue on my neck and other signs/symptoms. .
But yes, i would consider it, right now for my migraines, geting more frequent and more painful and years from now - when its been perfected even more, i'd consider it for my face. I think it would be a more difficult question if i had a daughter rather then a son as its so important to me to emphasize what is inside.
Again, great question.
what about you/

I knew it was time to get Botox when I noticed in the mirror that I had the beginnings of 2 big furrows between my eyebrows. Half the time, I didn't even realize that I was making an unhappy/mad face until someone asked if I was angry or upset. When I spoke to a doctor about it, he pointed out that after a while, I was reflexively making "that face" because of muscle memory.
Made sense to me so I tried it out. The 3-4 months post-Botox, whenever I was angry, I would make a different face. And instead of going back in 4-6 months later, I was able to slow down the 2 furrow lines.
I figure it's all about preventative measures. While Botox may not seem to be in the same category of prevention as sunscreen or working out, I want to look as young as I feel inside.

It's definitely not for me. Every line on the face tells a story. I've studied face reading enough to realize that my whole life is right there for everyone to see. I don't want to erase those "badges of honor".
Yeah, I know most people don't see lines and wrinkles in that light, but it is what it is.
Live with passion and purpose,
Vanessa
