I have sevearl "mineral" translucent powders. One is fabulous and was fairly pricey; the other, more expensive still, is a total dud. A good mineral prodict should enhance you and provide a little added sparkle.. Remember, all that glitters isn't gold....

Mineral makeup has turned into the hottest trend these past couple of years in the cosmetic industry, led by local cosmetic superstar Bare Escentuals founded in San Francisco.
Mineral makeup can be more expensive but there are affordable brands out there at Walgreens and local drugstores. I believe Physician's Choice and L'Oreal offer selections that are more affordable than mineral makeup sold at department stores and at Sephora.
Online options are available as well, for examplwww.glow.com is doing a free trial on RawMinerals raw.glow.com) mineral makeup.
I think mineral makeup is worth the higher price IF you see a difference, aka less break out, better coverage, more use of antioxidants and skin friendly nutrients in the formulas, etc.
