Added Nov 19, 2009Can I please get some recommendations on foundation or powder that will keep my skin looking matte and fresh all day? It seems no matter what I try, within two hours I'm shiny again. I use an Alpha Hydroxy lotion and Retin A, as well as an mild facial scrub daily. Any suggestions on how to keep the oiliness at bay would be of great help!

If you're looking for just a powder, I highly recommend Bare Escentual's Bare Minerals Matte powder. It just came out about three or four months ago (though being the good beauty writer I am, I had access to it at the beginning of the summer). Not only is it less iridescent than the traditional form of their best-selling product, it stays put longer, and kicks oily skin to the curb - at least for a few hours. I've found that blotting paper is the best way to touch up makeup when oily skin attacks - reapplying will only make your face look heavy and dull (and I've seen your skin - you hardly need makeup to begin with).
Though, it could be your products that are causing your skin to go into oily overload. If you've got a dermatologist, I'd check to make sure that you're not overdoing it - especially if you're using both a scrub and a retinol, both of which slough (and much like overwashing the hair can lead to an oily scalp, oversloughing the skin can sometimes lead to an oily face or breakouts) - and also to make sure the AHA isn't too strong for you. I have a friend who moved to Beverly Hills a few years ago (she's now a stylist to the stars), and she swears by using just jojoba oil on her face to both cleanse and moisturize.
The other thing to keep in mind is that oily skin can be genetic. That's the case for me, at least - my mom is 57 and still "suffers" from an oily T-zone (I use the word lightly; she has no wrinkles because of it).

I've never used it on my own Italian oily skin, but Tea Tree oil is said to be good for oily skin and acne. Tea tree oil has antibacterial, anti-fungal, antiseptic, and germicidal properties. I'm a huge fan of therapeutic grade essential oils, but haven't taken the plunge with tea tree oil on my face yet.
I will second Karyn's recommendation for Bare Escentual's Bare Minerals Matte powder. I used to use the non-matte formulation and I like this one better for oil control. That said, I still have shine after a few hours - just not as quickly and not as bad.

To help keep an Un-shiney, Matte, Fresh Look throughout your daily activities I strongly recommend "Chocolate Mousse" from ColorScience, which is a mineral make- up line! This mousse mattes oil production while enhancing your natural skin color, leaving you with an All day, All Over Even Tone. This product will not interfere with any serum/ treatment products you are currently using (that normally cause a chemical reaction) and is perfect for oily skin because it won't clog your pores! By providing hydration with Rice Peptides and Oat Beta Glucan, your pores are free from make- up bacteria! You can wear it alone, or as a primer; where you would than apply your foundation on top.. (for extra coverage if needed).. It Also provides your skin with protection from those Aging Sun Rays (UVA/UVA) with an SPF 20!
Hope this Helps!!

Monique
