Added Oct 19, 2009Before having a baby I was really great at taking care of myself, I was a busy entrepreneur but I did something nice for myself every day. I had what I called my "wellness team" that included my gyrotonics teacher, manicure/pedicurist, massage therapist, healers, yoga...everything. Having a baby in a way paralyzed me, it was either work or baby and that is it. It has definitely stifled my creativity and made me feel cranky and sluggish.
Now, inspired by Inner Rewards, I am back to my once a day plan. Yesterday it was eyebrows, today Pilates...I already have yoga planned for Wed and hair on Friday, so maybe tomorrow it will be a walk along the river if it is a nice day or even a facial.
I hope you'll join me!

I seriously want to be a calendar thing on the site to keep track of my own goals for wellness.
Tonight I have a facial, Wed I have a 90 minute massage and Thursday I have Pilates. :) I am really aiming to make sure i put in "me time" and keep myself destressed so I don't drive everyone insane at InnerRewards offices. ;)
We should all track each day what we are doing to keep healthy and well and do things for ourselves!

Thanks, Beth and Julie! This related to your other discussion has me determined not to let the minutes slip away from me in the mornings with my reading. I've been seeing myself give up that "me" time, minute by minute.

Beth, you must post your before and after "wellness team" transformation!
I'm proud of you. Before I linked up with InnerRewards, besides sporadic manicures and getting my hair colored twice a year, I kind of blew off the wellness routine. I hadn't been to the gym in 7 years, I hadn't gotten a massage since 2004, and to opted to DIY chemical peels rather than a getting a professional facial because I felt I wasn't worth it.
Post IR I'm happy to report I'm back at the gym 3 times a week, I'm opting for real facials a (and the results TRUMP what the DIY versions do) and yes, this week I'm actually getting a gratis hot stone rub down from a professional masseur friend in exchange for some social networking advice. It feels amazing, if only for a few hours a week, to exhale and do something for yourself. I'm sure as a working mom it feels like an impossibility. But yes, you have to make time for it, and I'm glad to hear you are. You deserve it, life is too short!

Kudos to all of you, ladies! Never forget that you're the star of your own life, and that you deserve to shine (especially if it's a hot stone massage-induced glow). I think a lot of women are fearful of being labeled "selfish" for doing things for themselves, which is just plain silly. How could we ever be positive influences in others' lives if we're not our own best selves? We have to take care of the whole package - this includes the inside and the outside - in order to be well. Surrounding yourself with like-minded people - and yes, this includes the community at InnerRewards - is a huge help to maintaining that feeling of competence.

wow! this is an inspirational article as well as everyone's response. I have 3 children, 18, 15, and 10. I've tried to maintain inner and outer beauty while raising them and its difficult to not feel selfish.
I joined IR recently and have found this website very helpful.
You all don't know how much this means to me. I am trying to be me and still be a mom and wife.
Thank you all!

I DEFINITELY struggle with this. I feel extremely guilty leaving my 3 boys, (6, 4 and 11 mos for anything "me" I recently started the gym again and I am a fitness instructor who has taken the last year and a half pretty much off. The weight has poured on with my last child, my body aches, and it's just very very hard at time. ALthough I wouldn't change any of it for the world. My children are the best blessing I could ever have!
BUT! I know a healthier me is a healthier mommy and my kids needs that. We do not have a lot of money so things like massages, etc. would be WONDERFUL, and much needed for my painful lower back, etc. But the funds just aren't there. So I just try to do the best I can! Any tips for a low budget?
