Added Jul 15, 2009A friend of mine worked in beauty PR and turned me on to Mineral Fusion www.mineralfusion.co...), a line of mineral makeup that was formerly only available at high end spas in Manhattan, several years ago. You can imagine my surprise when I discovered it in Whole Foods last summer, wedged between a batch of colon cleansers and a stack of Tom's of Maine toothpaste.
The Manhattan price tag is still there ($35 for a pot of mineral powder foundation versus the $25 you'd spend for Bare Escentuals' version), but the results are, too. The coverage from all of their products, whether it be a concealer, an eyeshadow or a lip gloss, is substantial, and the shades complement almost any skin tone. I'm a big fan of mineral makeup in general, and consider this line one of the best.

Does it offer any benefits for oil control? That is one of the skincare issues I still struggle with and Bare Escentuals, which I currently use, doesn't seem to have oil control benefits for me.

My thing is acne. I went to the site and was glad to see this: "Mineral makeup is comprised of micronized minerals, so it actually sits on the surface of the skin and isn’t absorbed into it. Therefore, mineral makeup will not clog pores or get a cakey look in lines or creases. mineral fusion is a better choice than traditional makeup because it is not only non-comedogenic, but the formulations are pharmaceutical-grade, free of parabens, chemical dyes and perfumes, and are created with natural preservatives, making them healthy and effective for all skin types. Minerals often used in mineral makeup include micronized Titanium Dioxide (which acts as a natural sunscreen), Iron Oxides (which give color to the makeup), Zinc Oxide (a natural sunscreen and soothes skin).
mineral fusion does not contain talc. Talc is the #1 ingredient in many traditional makeup formulations and is used as a filler - unfortunately it can clog pores and make fine lines look worse, the longer it is on the skin. Mineral fusion makeup lays on the surface of the skin and allows your skin to breathe and function normally. It’s better to wear it than no makeup at all. "

Despite what any makeup company offers, it's my opinion that while a product can cover or perfect an issue - oily skin, acne, redness - it can't control it. That's usually left to skincare habits, diet and any other skincare product (i.e., a moisturizer with a lot of fruit acid or none; oil free or packed with essential oils, etc.). I have combination skin, and mineral makeup has worked best for me in terms of coverage. Of course, makeu is just that - makeup - and washes off at the end of the day; which makes it the best part (if you don't like it, no sweat!).
