Added Dec 17, 2009Hi all,
I will probably blog about this later this week, but I wanted to write about my homeopathic doctor appointment today.
So I went to the Hahnemann Medical Clinic today for a full blown homeopathic remedy for some of the stress/anxiety and sleeplessness I have been experiencing. After a 2 1/2 hour discussion about my medical history, state of mind, general work day, and everything including my sex life and my monthly cycle (they get into details!). Basically I eat pretty healthy (pescetarian, mostly organic, no junk food or fast food), do pilates 2-3X a week, walk everywhere, and am very into natural health, detox, massage....ah, well I did start InnerRewards for a reason. ;) BUT I have problems with stress, and wanted to resolve that and a few other things.
I was given quite a few supplements, a great book on organic and healthy food--called Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon and Mary G. Enig, P.H.D., and my remedy, which is Nux Vomica.
Check out this description of what the remedy is for, it's kind of cracking me up. ;)
"Nux vomica is chiefly linked to workaholic personalities who drive themselves to stress and excess. Ambitious and pushy, they thrive on challenges, and often work in entrepreneurial or managerial jobs. The typical pattern is of someone who is oversensitive and intolerant of criticism, yet perfectionist and often very critical of others. Such highly driven people tend to overload their bodies at play as well as at work. They tend to have high sex drives, consume too much rich food, coffee, and alcohol, and abuse drugs. This indulgence can create tension and sleeplessness, and often leads to digestive disorders (most seriously, peptic ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, or liver problems when the body can no longer keep up with the lifestyle).
If the profile matches, Nux vomica is given for irritability, insomnia, digestive symptoms, colds and influenza, asthma, cystitis, and menstrual or pregnancy problems. Typically symptoms are worse for cold, noise, light, and odors."
I'm a bit amused with this. I agree with the workaholic things, but not sure I agree with a lot of the rest. ;)
Has anyone ever been to a homeopath? Did you find it worked? Was it good for you?
I have been looking for my constitutional remedy for a few years, and hope that I have found it!
:)

Homeopathic medicines are based on symptoms exhibited - medicine for pain on left arm may be different for pain or right arm (can't figure why!)
I have found homeopathic medicines effective for various discomforts from colds and headaches to hypertension. One needs to be careful about dosage since the sweet globules look harmless but may have high potency.
Homeopathic treatments require lots of patience since the effect is not always as rapid as regular medicines.
Whole Foods has a good inventory of homeopathic medicines and quite a few interesting books.
P.S.: I have a Nux Vomica profile too! Anyone out there to share a few pills and more......
