Added Oct 15, 2009Hi. I'm new to the community. I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for severely oily skin and oily hair. I have struggled with this for a long time. It only got worse after I stopped taking the birth control pill a year ago. Any suggestions?

Hi Nancy, welcome to the InnerRewards family!
I too battle with oily skin and this is my favorite solution to help combat it: Benefit's "Dr. Feelgood." It's a mattifying pomade that can be applied over makeup or worn alone. It's light, silky, and gives you a lovely matte finish that leaves no tell-tale trace like powderwww.sephora.com/brow...
I also use an oil free moisturizer with retinol and salicylic acid to keep my pores clear but still stay hydrated and and fresh. Neutrogena is inexpensive and offers many solutions for our type of problemwww.amazon.com/gp/pr...
For oily hair issues, I would trade you any day for my dry and frizzy hair conundrum, but I have heard from many of my friends that dry shampoo is an excellent solution to extend the time between too much shampooing and give your hair body and texturereviews.sephora.com/...
Hope this helps, and best of luck to you!

Hi, Nancy -
To couple with Christina, welcome to the site - I think you'll find lots of innovative ways to live a happier, more fulfilling - and perhaps less oily - lifestyle here.
Though I'm not a doctor or a medical professional, it sounds like the cause of your excessive oil could be in relation to the birth control pill. I know from personal experience that shifts in hormones (such as an increase in estrogen right before my menstrual cycle) often leads to an oily scalp and breakouts on my T-zone.
Also, overuse of drying products - think clarifying shampoo for the hair and acne treatments for the face - can actually exacerbate oil production. Ironically, one of the ways to combat this is to use a skin-friendly oil, such as jojoba and sweet almond oils, to cleanse and nurture the skin. Lush has a great collection of moisturizers that are kind to us oily-skinned gals, and Dr. Hauschka makes a great line of gentle shampoos and conditioners.
If it's any consolation, my mother, who is 57, still has oily skin, and so did her mom; neither has or had deep wrinkles on her face. I have my fingers crossed the same holds true for me!
Stay beautiful,
Karyn

Cosmetic grade green clay is a wonderful masque to use. Buy 100% clay w/o anything added. It comes in powder form. Mix it into a thin slurry, apply to face, let dry and then rinse off with warm water.
Make sure your skin care products and your nutrition are the best for you. These two components make a HUGE difference in the quality of the skin.
Good luck!

looks like you got a lot of great replies - let me add one more hopefully encouraging comment - did you know those with dry skin are more likely to develop wrinkles - much sooner!

Remember, healthy skin comes from the inside out. I had a battled oil, cystic acne for about 9 years. Tried tons of topics, meds, supplements, diet changes...the best thing that has helped me is Alfalfa and GLA from Shaklee. It's honestly, amazing. And would have thunk it? :)

Not sure how things are going, but... it looks like this might be something that would help with promoting healthy skin inside and outwww.innerrewards.com...
I've used Jan Marini products (her sunscreen) and I LOVED the way it felt on my face (as well as the light scent). I haven't had a chance to try out the gift set, but you should definitely add it to your wishlist and send the list to your friends or family.
